Black Book of Saint Cyprian, infernal magic, Cyprianus

The Supreme Black, Red and Infernal Magic of the Chaldeans and Egyptians by Jonás Sufurino is a remarkable early twentieth-century grimoire and companion volume to the legendary Book of Saint Cyprian. First published in Rome in 1916, this enigmatic work gathers spells, hexes, magical recipes and infernal secrets attributed to the mysterious Cyprianic tradition.

According to the book’s legendary history, the original material was given in 1001 to the monk Jonás Sufurino by spirits at a monastery near Mount Brocken in northern Germany, a place traditionally associated with witches and Walpurgisnacht. Its elusive editor, Dr. Moorne, presented these previously unpublished “other matters” from the supposed German original of the Book of Saint Cyprian.

The text ranges widely across the darker territories of European folk magic and grimoire lore. Among its subjects are the preparation of magical ointments, methods for breaking pacts with infernal spirits, the enigmatic Sphinx and its paradoxical questions, the origins of magical arts, the making of philters, techniques for influencing others, astral fire, and traditions surrounding Simon the Magician.

It also contains recipes concerning love, the evil eye and various forms of magical attack and protection. Taken together, these materials offer a fascinating glimpse into the popular imagination surrounding Cyprianic magic and the enduring legend of the Black Book.

This is the first English translation of this rare companion text, making it a particularly interesting addition for collectors and readers exploring the Cyprianus tradition, European grimoire literature and historical accounts of infernal magic.

The first printing of the hardcover edition is limited to 500 copies, making this a desirable collector's edition for those building a serious occult library.
