Historia del gran Zapatero Bandarra, insigne cazador de brujas is a scarce first edition Spanish satirical work by Dr. Refilando, the pseudonym of Juan de la Cruz Ferrer y Sala, published in Barcelona by Luis Niubó in 1867.

 

 

Written in a humorous style inspired by Don Quixote, this unusual nineteenth-century novel follows the adventures of the cobbler Bandarra, a supposed witch hunter. Through satire and comedy, the author critiques superstition, witchcraft, Spiritualism, somnambulism and the misuse of animal magnetism, offering a fascinating insight into Spanish attitudes towards occult beliefs and supernatural practices during the nineteenth century.
