Gullveig, Norse witchcraft, Thursatrú
Gullveigarbók by Ekortu explores the darker and more obscure dimensions of Old Norse mythology, witchcraft and Northern spirituality through the enigmatic figure of Gullveig. Presented as a black underworldly crone and giantess associated with anti-cosmic runes and magic, Gullveig is examined through a range of names and mythological identities, including Heiðr, Aurboða, Angrboða and Hyrrokin.
Drawing upon Old Norse mythology, sagas, witchcraft and poetry, the work expands beyond Gullveig herself to explore the wider mythological landscape surrounding her. Loki, Jørmungandr, Fenrir and Hel are considered alongside the underworldly and giant realms of Jøtunheimr, Helheimr and Niflheimr, providing a broader picture of the beings and places associated with the book's interpretation of the darker side of Norse tradition.
The latter portion, Fjølkyngi, turns towards witchcraft and practical esotericism. Here Ekortu presents aspects of his own magical work within the Thursatru Tradition (Þursatrú siðr), including his Gullveig workings and the use of Gullveig sigils and bindrunes.
For readers interested in Gullveig, Norse witchcraft and Thursatrú, Gullveigarbók offers an extensive exploration of a comparatively obscure current within Northern spirituality, combining mythology, lore and the author's own magical praxis.
