Cyprianus, Clavis Inferni, black magic grimoire
Cyprianus: Clavis Inferni presents a limited-edition facsimile of a late eighteenth-century grimoire associated with the Solomonic and Goetic traditions. Known as the Key of Hell, the work brings together historical commentary, esoteric essays and an English translation of the original Latin conjurations alongside a reproduction of the source manuscript.
The volume opens with an introduction by A.D. Mercer examining the historical background of the text and its place within the broader tradition of magical grimoires. JCB contributes an essay exploring Archangel Metatron, including his divine and infernal aspects and associated Qliphothic spirits, while Mercer also provides a short study of the Four Demon Kings.
The central portion reproduces the Clavis Inferni itself, a text composed using Latin, Hebrew and the Transitus Fluvii cipher alphabet. The manuscript is discussed in relation to Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy and the Heptameron, with further connections noted to other works within the Solomonic grimoire tradition.
Importantly, the accompanying historical material distinguishes the text from the third-century Saint Cyprian of Carthage and addresses the later legendary association between the name Cyprian and magical literature. The book therefore offers both a practical and historical point of entry into the study of early modern black magic, ritual conjuration and the manuscript traditions surrounding the Clavis Inferni.
This edition is strictly limited to only 180 numbered exemplars, with every copy hand-numbered and stating its precise limitation. Its leather binding, 23ct gold foil sigil and full-colour internal reproduction make it an appealing collector's edition for those interested in Cyprianus, Solomonic magic and historical grimoires.
