Crossed Keys is a unique chimeric binding uniting The Black Dragon and The Enchiridion of Pope Leo III into a single working volume. Both texts arise from the French bibliothèque bleue tradition and together present a rich body of spells, spirits, talismans, psalm magic, and practical lore.

This is the first time these complementary grimoires have been bound together, extensively footnoted and restored for practical use. Seals and sigils have been corrected and redrawn, with notes drawn from the translator’s own magical record.

Included texts

The Black Dragon

A practical grimoire of evocation, exorcism, spells, counter-spells, folk sorcery, and “marvelous secrets,” including:

  • The Hand of Glory and the Black Hen
  • Traditional cunning craft methods (toad bone, black cat bone, horse secrets)
  • A distinctive form of the magic mirror
  • Tables of favorable and unfavorable days
  • Latin prayers and orisons

Drawing on material related to the Grimoire of Honorius, the spirit hierarchy aligns with those found in the Grimorium Verum. Original seals are reproduced alongside corrected versions for comparison.

The Enchiridion of Pope Leo III

A classic manual of psalm magic, orisons, talismans, and pentacle construction, traditionally associated with Pope Leo III and Charlemagne. Long circulated in French magical practice, this text provides insight into the devotional and liturgical methods that underpin much of the grimoire tradition.

Why this volume matters

Together, these works reveal the meeting point between folk sorcery, psalm magic, and formal grimoire practice. The pairing illuminates the practical mindset behind historical magical texts and provides a workable system that bridges devotional magic and infernal conjuration.
